

The feature of Willaston, which is most unusual in Wirral, is the development of the village as a number of farmhouses grouped around a large green. This is perhaps why nearly all the writers of Wirral history in the 19th century drew particular attention to the farms, as well as to the mature trees, when the village was still almost entirely an agricultural community.
The photo above shows the copper beech tree in August 1996, more than 60 years after it was planted in 1935, marking the Silver Jubilee of King George V
In the background one can make out the Memorial Hall and the Old Red Lion.
